How to Clean Your Vape Products: Putting Health and Hygiene First in the COVID-19 Lockdown

Straining your eyes? You can listen to this automated AI version of the article here:

It sounds like an uninspired, unoriginal movie plot. A virus sweeps the globe, and life as we know it changes. It might sound like a movie plot, but it became real life in December 2019. A coronavirus called COVID-19 spread across the world, and not even New Zealand could avoid it.

All of a sudden, our hygiene practices were brought into question, and we began to wonder if we were doing all we could to keep ourselves and our families healthy and safe.

As New Zealand headed into a level four lockdown at 11:59 pm on March 25, 2020, all but essential services were shut down. Kiwis had to focus on cleanliness and hygiene in what could be a life or death situation.

While hygiene by and large covers handwashing, did you know it can also involve sharing? We are often taught that sharing is caring, but sharing can also mean the spread of COVID-19.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to remember that your vape product is just for you and that only you should be the one using it. If you have let people use it in the past, or even recently, then use this downtime in lockdown to give it a decent clean. Here’s how to go about it.

1. Replace the Mouthpiece

Mouthpieces, or drip tips, are a must-have accessory for any vape pen. However, they are also the part that has the most contact with your mouth. Take this opportunity to order additional drip tips and replace your old one with a fresh, new one.

2. Clean the Vape Tank

Cleaning the vape tank is a quick and easy process, and you can use alcohol to make it more effective. Remove the tank from your mod and empty any remaining E-liquid that sits inside.

Use a non-flavoured vodka and a solvent to take care of E-liquid left behind in the vape box tank. Use a damp paper towel or damp, clean cloth to get rid of any debris or stickiness until the tank is sparkling clean. Follow up this process by using warm water to wipe and rinse it. Let it air dry and then reassemble it.

3. Replace the Coil

Vape coils don’t last forever, and if you are wondering how to clean vape coils, then know that it’s better just to replace them. If you notice that you’re not getting as much vapour from your vape pen, the atomizer is leaking, it has a burnt taste, or you see it’s dark or crusty, then replace it.

You’re already cleaning the tank and replacing the mouthpiece, so you may as well give your vape pen the complete overhaul.

4. Wipe Down the Vape Pen

Use a disinfectant product to wipe down the exterior of your pen. Keep liquids away from the charge point, but focus on where you would typically position your hands. Repeat this process regularly to keep your vape pen fresh and clean in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Are Vape Shops in New Zealand Open?

Vape shops in New Zealand, such as Vapourium, are classed as essential services, in the same way that cigarette manufacturers are. That means that Vapourium is still taking online orders while the country is in lockdown.

However, while New Zealanders are encouraged to put their health and hygiene first, so too are businesses that remain open. Vapourium does not have open bricks and mortar stores, but it’s business as usual online.

Strict hygiene and safety standards are being followed to ensure the safety of both staff and those who buy E-liquids and vape pens online.

During this trying time, Vapourium is also offering free main centre shipping and discounted rural shipping. There may be some delays with courier services.

General Hygiene Advice During COVID-19 Lockdown

The Ministry of Health offers some excellent advice for the prevention of COVID-19. Avoid close contact with people who are unwell, and stay home if you are feeling unwell yourself. If you have to cough or sneeze, do so into your elbow or cover your mouth and nose with tissues.

Wash your hands with soap and water often for a minimum of 20 seconds, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth if your hands are not clean. Don’t underestimate the value in cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, such as door handles, too.

Avoid sharing things like vape pens, cups, and food, and personal contact too, like hugs and kisses. Anyone who is showing symptoms of COVID-19 should call Healthline immediately.

Stay Safe and Stay Home

Cleaning vape pens, vape accessories, hands, and your home, is one small thing you can do to keep yourself safe. However, the best thing you can do is stay at home. Many essential services, such as groceries and even your E-liquids, can be delivered to your door. Stay safe and stay home. Kia Kaha, New Zealand.
