Stopping Smoking in New Zealand: Where to Get Help
JasonNew Zealand has free, independent services for people who want to stop smoking. This page lists where to find them. It does not give health advice, and it does not give advice about whether any particular product is suitable for you — that is a conversation to have with a health practitioner or a stop-smoking service.
Where to get help
Quitline
Quitline is New Zealand's national stop-smoking service. It is free and provides support by phone, text and online, including a personalised plan and follow-up contact.

Your GP or nurse
A GP, practice nurse or pharmacist can discuss the options available to you, including funded stop-smoking medicines and nicotine replacement therapy, and can take your medical history into account.
Local stop-smoking services
Health New Zealand funds face-to-face and group stop-smoking services around the country, including kaupapa Māori and Pacific services. Your GP can refer you, or Quitline can tell you what is available in your area.
Vaping Facts
Vaping Facts is the Ministry of Health's public information website about vaping in New Zealand.

Healthline provides free health advice from registered nurses, 24 hours a day.

About nicotine
Nicotine is an addictive substance. Vaping substances sold in New Zealand may contain up to 20 mg/mL of nicotine in freebase form, or 28.5 mg/mL of nicotine in nicotine salt form. Nicotine-free e-liquid is also available. Vaping products are not medicines and are not approved as smoking cessation treatments; funded cessation medicines are available through a GP.

Staff can answer factual questions about how a device works, what a label means and which products are notified for sale in New Zealand. Questions about your health, or about whether you should use nicotine, should go to Quitline, your GP or a stop-smoking service.
