A Review of the Exo Armor by Xomo

A Review of the Exo Armor by Xomo

I’ve used a lot of vapes over the last few years. I’ve used pods, little pen vapes, bigger regulated mods with high-wattage cloud-chucking tanks, expensive mech mods with expertly set up RDAs on top, but none of these had the hype factor that the Exo Armor from Xomo has.

From the second I took the box out of the courier parcel, I could tell this was going to be of the utmost quality. The packaging alone is enough to make you want one, and the super-awesome spring-loaded case that the mod comes in can be used as unique storage.

This device took the nutheads at XOMO two years to develop. Why, you ask? Because they had a ridiculous goal in mind. The designer's dream was to build a high-quality, rugged, hard-wearing mod, with the best user experience possible, and the fastest firing time on the market.

With an incredible 0.001s fire speed, they’ve definitely achieved this, and my device (which has hit the concrete) has only taken minor cosmetic damage, such that it’s nearly unnoticeable.

So, some specifications for the nerds:

  • HD screen
  • Size: 90*67*34.5mm
  • Temperature control with anti-dry burn technology
  • Modes: VW, TC, TCR Modes; Taste Adjustment (super powerful, powerful, standard, soft and energy saving)
  • SXi-Q Intelligent Taste Curve - to customise the hit of your mod to your tastes
  • Resistance range in Joule mode: 0.05ohm-1.0ohm
  • Resistance range in Power mode: 0.1ohm-3.0ohm
  • Output voltage: 1.0-9.5 Volts
  • Wattage range: 1W-300W
  • Low voltage, overheat and overcharge protection
  • Reverse polarity, output short, low resistance protection
  • Dual 18650
  • Time & date
  • Customisable wallpapers
  • Upgradeable firmware
  • Adjustable brightness
  • 3-colour LED
  • 11 warning messages to assist with safe use

And what you’ll receive in the box:

  • 1 Exo Armor mod
  • 1 Set of Exo Armor armour pieces
  • 1 USB-C Fast charge and update cable
  • 1 Instruction manual
  • 1 Warranty card
  • 1 Xomo branded chain

I’m not gonna lie, it took me close to an hour to get this thing set up after taking it out of the box, not because it was difficult, but just because it was so exciting! Everyone in the office wanted a look at the packaging, and the sweet magnetic armour plates.

I have previously used the Vaporesso Armor Pro, which had the previous fastest fire speed of 0.002s. From 0.002 to 0.001 doesn’t sound noticable, but it’s twice as fast. It’s definitely noticeable.

Some of this speed may come from the YiHi chip being used, which seems to automatically ‘power curve’ each hit for the ultimate in ramp up and firing speed!

Honestly, it does everything you’d expect an expensive regulated mod to do, and with 300W capability, it blows other dual 18650 mods out of the water. The built in safeties mean that using it at high wattages isn’t going to cause thermal runaway. It also gets excellent battery life out of two 25Rs, though I wouldn’t recommend using 25Rs with this mod, as most will be using it at a high wattage, which 25Rs are not as suitable for. I’ve mostly been using it around 40W with a cute MTL RDA, but I’ve tried it with some beefy coils at 140W, and the performance and ramp-up has been second-to-none.

The chip saves up to 5 different power profiles, which are easy to swap between, meaning switching out atomisers has never been easier.

The 4 face-buttons mean that once you have the controls figured out, the Exo Armor is a lot quicker and easier to adjust than a lot of other mods, but I did find the firmware a bit confusing at first.

You can connect the device to a computer with the included USB-C cable, which allows for firmware updates, screensaver uploads and other such fun!

In terms of aesthetics, it will certainly divide people. It looks massive and unwieldy, but I and all my colleagues were pleasantly surprised with how wonderful it feels in the hand, and how surprisingly lightweight it feels. I love the rugged look, and the feeling of the metal armour plates.

Speaking of sweet magnetic armour plates. This thing comes with 9 removable plates, which means you can have multiple looks for your mod, and there’s even going to be some cool swappable alternative finish armour plates available (we don’t have them at the moment, but if the mod is popular, we can sell them). Seems gimmicky, but the magnets that hold them on are really strong. I’ve never had them fall off, except the one time I dropped the mod on concrete. This is actually not a bad thing, as it will disperse the energy from the fall and reduce damage done to the mod.

The circular, full colour screen set in the middle of the armoured mod reminds me of Iron Man’s chest-plate, and with the ability to set and upload new screensavers, you can even set it as his arc reactor to complete the look!

All of the finer details on this device are thoroughly thought out, to the point that even the screws that hold the thing together are as unique and pretty as a pretty thing. Small red and black stars dot the circumference of each face of the mod, visible when the armour plates are removed.

Another nice little easter egg is the gold coloured ring around the screen. If you remove the armour, there’s a bunch of dots around the gold ring, which glow in the dark! Sadly you can only see them when at least one of the armour pieces is removed from the front.

We’ve only got limited numbers, so get in fast!
