In recent years, there has been a lot of stigma surrounding smoking and vaping. For decades, smoking was touted as the greatest thing, with advertisements stating that doctors smoked specific brands, and you should too. Over time, we came to know that it wasn’t the greatest thing.
But quitting smoking isn’t often as easy as stubbing one out and never picking it up again. It’s an addiction, which is one of many reasons why people began vaping instead. It’s less harmful than smoking, far more affordable, and more socially appropriate.
Everyday people began smoking to kick the habit, but so too did celebrities. Did you know that these celebrities vape? Some of these big names may surprise you.
Samuel L. Jackson
Samuel L. Jackson is not only a vaper; he’s an out and proud vaper. Samuel, who is known for Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight, to name a few, posts pictures on the internet often about his vaping.
But he doesn’t just leave it at pictures. On the Jimmy Fallon Show, he read out a poem about Boy Meets World while vaping. He puffs on his e-cigarette then gets right into the four-minute-long poem. You can check it out here.
Johnny Depp
The online rumour mill states that Johnny Depp took up vaping while filming a scene in the 2010 film The Tourist. But he enjoyed it that much that he started vaping in real life, too. There are plenty of photos online of Johnny Depp producing various vape clouds.
Richard Hammond
Richard is a former Top Gear Presenter, more recently known for his role on Grand Tour with James May and Jeremy Clarkson. You wouldn’t know it from watching his shows, but Richard Hammond is a vaper! There are plenty of photos online, showing him vaping in between shoots.
Katherine Heigl
Katherine Heigl is another out and proud vaper, as shown in her TV interview with David Letterman. Katherine, who is well known for her roles in Grey’s Anatomy, Knocked Up, and The Big Wedding, switched from smoking to vaping and even managed to convince David Letterman that it was a good decision.
David tried her e-cigarette on the show and said it was remarkable. When asked if it had nicotine, Katherine said it did, and it simulated the smoking process while releasing water vapour.
Ben Affleck
While Ben Affleck is not someone who vapes a lot of public, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been seen. After all, paparazzi don’t miss a beat. He has been photographed several times vaping in his car and while walking to meetings. He is well known for his roles in Gone Girl, Good Will Hunting, and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio is a household name. Many people adore him for his roles in Inception, Titanic, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Catch Me If You Can. But what you may not have known is that Leonardo vapes.
He has been spotted with a vape in his hand and mouth in many situations, even including the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards and the 2014 US Open.
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Not long after Catherine Zeta-Jones’ husband, Michael Douglas, was diagnosed with throat cancer, Catherine was seen out vaping. The Swansea, Wales-born actress known for roles such as The Terminal and Ocean’s Twelve, made the conscious decision to stop smoking and start vaping because of the diagnosis.
Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell started vaping in 2016 to quit smoking in an effort to be healthier for his son, Eric. At his worst, he was smoking 80 cigarettes a day and had been unable to quit smoking with other methods. Simon said that it was his worst vice, and he had tried things like hypnotism in the past to stop. Right after his hypnotherapy session, he lit up a smoke.
Vaping, he said, has been successful. He likes the sweet flavour and believes it would help him quit smoking. But as of 2020, it appears he may have only been able to cut down, for he was spotted smoking cigarettes on a yacht.
Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson, who played the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight, started using e-cigarettes to help him quit smoking. He was spotted at Coachella with an e-cigarette and in many other public places. Robert has always been well known for his smoking, particularly as he would chain smoke on movie sets.
Celebrities You May Have Never Known Were Vapers
Celebrities are just like us. In several cases, they struggled to give up smoking and turned to a cessation tool that could see results. For many, that was vaping.
Several celebrities have made the switch, above and beyond those mentioned above. From Kate Moss, Ronnie Wood, and Bruno Mars, to Miley Cyrus, Jack Nicholson, and Lady Gaga, there are some surprise stories coming out of the woodwork!
