"I started smoking at the young age of about 14. My Mother smoked so I would take the odd one from her packet now and then thinking she wouldn't know. They were Peter Jackson cigarettes and were really strong. Picking up that habit was the worst thing I could have done as I'd already endured a rough life in and out of hospital with terrible asthma. My parents were so disappointed the day my friends father marched me and my friend to my house to inform my parents that he'd caught us puffing away. I told my parents I hated it and would never touch another smoke but I knew I was lying.
Over the next 20 years I became an accomplished and competent smoker, getting through a 50 gram a week. Of course, I could barely breath and spent much of my day coughing. In 2001, my lung collapsed. The surgeon said he would be seeing me again if I continued to smoke. It took me a further 17 years to quit after that frightening experience. I had made attempts to quit over the years but it never stuck. Until I bought a vape. It's been four weeks without a cigarette and I don't miss them at all. In fact, I'm finding it so easy that I feel like I'm cheating. But I'm not, it's just that now there is this great efficient tool to help people like me give up something I wish I'd never started."
