I’m a creature of habit, there is a reason you will rarely find me reviewing a product. I thought I had already found the best “vape for me”, until recently.

A part of my job here at Vapourium is figuring out what it is that sets us, and our products apart from the rest of the market. When I found out that we were bringing our own branded vapes onto the market, I groaned, inwardly. I would have to vape on something other than my trusty SMOK X-Priv and Bonza RDA, I would have to vape something other than Vanilla Beanie and worst of all I would have to change the way I vaped.

Originally, it was like quitting smoking all over again. I resisted. I kicked up a fuss and broadcasted to anyone who would listen that MTL (mouth to lung) was not for me, RDA’s was where it was at and I would sub-ohm at 90 watts for all eternity. Sound eerily familiar to your pack a day uncle who spends Christmas outside with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other? Just me?

Well, I was wrong.

It took me a while to get into the groove, but in the end, there was no denying it. The boss was right (Thanks for not rubbing it in my face). Nic salts and MTL devices are where it’s at for me.

First, I’ll start with the Nic Salts. Briefly, nicotine salt is a different form of nicotine, more similar to the natural state of nicotine found in the tobacco leaf than your “traditional” nicotine found in e-liquid. Freebase nicotine is the most common form of nicotine currently used in e-liquid around the world, but it doesn’t really give you the same “hit” as a cigarette and many people have found this off-putting when making the switch to vaping.

Enter nicotine salts. With a similar absorption to your average cigarette, not only does it give you that kick in the back of your throat, but with the PH levels evened out you can vape much higher strengths of nicotine without the harsh inhale. Perfect for anyone who is just looking for a better alternative.

And so Vapourium brings you, the Nimbus. Opening the Nimbus was quite an experience for me, a device that we had all tirelessly worked on in our different areas. The research, the writing, the comparisons… And finally it was here, in my own two hands.

When you first look at the Nimbus, you can see that it isn’t quite like any other “traditional” pen-style vapouriser. For one thing, it has three small LED lights that sit just above the button, not only do these demonstrate how much battery you have left but they also signify the three settings, or strengths, of the Nimbus. You can select from Cool (10.5W), Medium (12W) and Warm (13.5W). Another handy little feature is the magnetic dust cap that covers the drip tip, preventing the strange distinctive fluff that seems to always coat the bottom of my bag from finding its way in there, the best part? When you’re vaping you can attach the cap to the bottom of the battery.

As much as I loved the packaging, I loved the way it felt in my hand, but I wasn’t ready to put down my old faithful just yet. I vape all the time, in my office, in bed, in the car, there isn’t much time that I spend without my vape in my hand. Breaking that habit was the most difficult part of making the switch to the Nimbus. I couldn’t continuously vape 25mg throughout the day.

I started seeking advice from some of my previously converted colleagues. Hamish was a wealth of knowledge, I had to change the way I thought about vaping. I felt like I was back in the Vapourium 4 years ago, Shalin selling me my first vapouriser as I attempted to hide the pack of cigarettes poking out of my handbag. The advice that I had learned by heart and shared with hundreds of our customers over the years started coming back, “Picking the right vapouriser for you is important, finding the right e-liquid is equally important, but it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t want to quit smoking.” It’s all you, baby.

And then it happened, something clicked in my brain and I found that the Nimbus / Nic Salt combo was everything I wish I had when I tried to quit smoking all those years ago.

The adjustable air flow and adjustable wattage makes this the ultimate “all-round-quit-kit” for anyone who isn’t interested in the technical aspect of vaping. You don’t have to take my word for it, if you are skeptical (and as a lifelong skeptic, I understand) try it for yourself.

  • Agree with every word. I discovered nic salts about four months ago (cheers Sam O’Leary!). I’ve been using the Suorin Air, which I love, but the battery life sucks. Popped into the Vapourium this week to pick up some salts, which are usually around $30. But, the Nimbus was there with free salts for $50, so it seemed crazy not to give it a crack. I prefer the Suorin Air (with a fresh coil), but the Nimbus has been great, so far. Loving the longer battery life. Mine does seem to burn through the coils, though.
